Field Trip to Rappahannock Historical and Archaeological Sites with Julia King, PhD, St. Mary’s College of Maryland
Join the Pre-Columbian Society of Washington D.C. for a field trip to visit archaeological and historic Rappahannock sites on Saturday, March 28th.
This day-long event will meet at 11 AM at the Rappahannock Tribal Center (5036 Indian Neck Rd, Indian Neck, VA 23148), where we will meet with individuals from the Rappahannock Indian Tribe. We will participate in a virtual presentation of Tribal history led by the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer, after which we will gather for lunch (details pending; please bring a form of payment.).
In the afternoon, Dr. Julia King will lead the group to Rappahannock archaeological and historic sites, including Menokin and Fones Cliffs, as mentioned in her recent monthly lecture to the Society. Please note that there will be a one-mile walk one-way along uneven terrain to access the archaeological site; wear proper attire and footwear.
This event is free to current members of the Pre-Columbian Society and their families. Non-members are invited to join this event and make voluntary contributions.
To sign up, please email Society Executive Committee member Donald Sutherland (anthropologist1941@yahoo.com) by Wednesday, March 18th.
